a few things brian kinney has taught me:
self care is not selfish.
people are going to be wrong about you. contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to spend your entire life trying to convince them to change their minds.
put on pants before you answer your door. it’s probably your father, or your boss, or your boyfriend’s mom. just…put on pants, okay.
sometimes it’s okay to wear armor. wanting to protect yourself does not make you weak.
but neither does letting someone see that you have skin.
others are going to tell you (over and over and over) what “should” be important to you. if those things are important, fine. if they’re not, that’s awesome too. figure out what’s meaningful to you.
if everyone tells you that you can’t possibly finish a bike-a-thon in your state, make sure you break your clavicle before proceeding so that when you cross the finish line with your arm in a sling, it’ll be even more fucking impressive.
it’s okay to get rid of the things that are hurting you. we all have our “bowling balls.” don’t let them fester in the closet. roll them down the street while appropriately cathartic music plays in the background. then hug somebody.
when someone tells you “this is who you are,” stare them down and say “no, /THIS/ is who I am.” (bonus points if you do it on a balcony, after screaming “I’m a cock sucker! I’m queer!”)
you’re not a half of a whole. you can dance on your own, and it will be beautiful.
